Introducing itscalledsoccer

For the latter half of 2021, American Soccer Analysis has been working on an R and Python library to make it easier to programmatically interact with our data. Today, we are happy to announce the release of the library which we've dubbed itscalledsoccer . If you want to get started right away, the library is available for download from CRAN and PyPI, and the source code can be found here.

In this article, we'll talk a bit about how we built the library and walk through a basic example or two.

ASA's New Interactive Tables

Last Saturday, the North Carolina Courage’s Denise O’Sullivan ushered in the return of professional team sports in the United States after several months, with the first strike of the ball in this summer’s NWSL Challenge Cup. At roughly the same time, we haphazardly struck a few keys on our computers, proudly ushering in a set of exciting changes to ASA’s interactive application. This allowed us to share some new features, most importantly NWSL data and our goals added (g+) values for all players in all seasons for which we have data.

Interactive Tables Update

We recently updated the app with a few more bells and whistles so that you can make more noise. I explained the xGoal model changes earlier(link), so here I’ll highlight the app’s key updates. We’ve made the app accessible publicly, we’ve integrated compensation into the data tabs, and we’ve improved sidebar filter options.
