Welcoming the USL Super League
/Hey folks,
It’s taken us a little while but data from the new USL Super League is here! All the data you know and love from MLS, NWSL, the USL BroSo side of the world. It’s all there, just click the USL S logo in the interactive tables. It hasn’t quite found it’s way into the it’s called soccer python and R packages yet, but soon.
To commemorate such a thing, let’s take a look at week 1.
Currently leading the league in xG+xA is Spokane Zephyr FC starlet Emina Ekic, who is back in America after ripping up the A league after a few seasons with Racing Louisville. 1.07 xG+xA is a lot.
Three time SEC goalkeeper of the year Ashley Orkus is off to a flyer with the Tampa Bay Sun as the only GK to beat their xG on the opening weekend. Orkus got picked by the KC Current in 2023, but never quite got a look in. Nice that she’s got her time to shine in the Florida sun.
On the goals added side, Carolina Ascent’s first ever signing Vicky Bruce is leading the way, pretty rare to see a center back load up that sort of dribbling g+. Bruce is joined on the Ascent by a number of other former (some NCAA Championship winning) UNC Tar Heels, including First Team All Name Cannon Clough.
Data goes up after every game, and it’s all there for you to drop your analytically inclined hot takes. Eliot has already built out his GameFlows over at Bluesky if your game is played on a spreadsheet, mate.
If you’ve ever got questions about the data, reach out on twitter and somebody can get you an answer. But remember, if your player/team has bad data it’s because we hate them, not because they’re bad. Enjoy the soccer!
